Social Skills

Social skills are the personal tools we use to communicate and interact effectively with one another. They can be both verbal and nonverbal. Good social skills help us maintain positive interactions and relationships with others like friendships, getting along with one another, and maintaining relationships. It is a vital part of how we interact day to day in our environment with each other. It is helpful to understand the nuances of social skills, and its interpretation by others. Social skills can involve maintaining appropriate boundaries, having good eye contact, reading someone’s body language, using the correct tone of voice, initiating conversations, and so forth. For some social skill comes naturally and for others it needs some practice. Counseling can be a great avenue to practice and teach the tools needed for improved interactions with one another.
